Checklist: End-of-Year Tasks at Your Dental Practice

Things to review at the end of each year in your dental practice.

As we approach the new year and eagerly anticipate a fresh start, now is a great time to tie up loose ends.

To streamline this process, here is a checklist of tasks to review as we head into 2024.

End-of-Year Payroll Checkup

Take the time to verify W2 data for all current and former employees. Double-check details such as addresses, Social Security numbers, and total earnings. This small effort now can prevent hours of detailed administrative work later.

End-of-Year Financial Checkup

Ensure that your retirement accounts are fully funded. It's a rewarding feeling to know that these financial buckets are secured. For parents, setting up and funding a college savings plan for your children can be a significant investment in their future that surpasses any sweet treat.

End-of-Year Personal Checkup

If you've moved this year, check that your driver's license has the correct address. Update your address details on credit cards, bank accounts, insurance policies, and warranties to avoid missing mail.

It's also important to tell your CPA about your move. Then they can file a form with the IRS so that that important communications, such as refund checks or levy notices, reach your correct address.

Reviewing and addressing these end-of-year tasks can set the stage for a smoother transition into the new year. It's about closing this chapter responsibly and preparing ourselves for fresh opportunities and challenges. So, as we bid farewell to this year, let's do so with a sense of completion and readiness for the year to come.
